The Valentich case:

Quote
Valentich: Is there any known traffic below five thousand [feet]?

Robey: No known traffic.

V: I am—seems [to] be a large aircraft below five thousand.

R: What type of aircraft is it?

V: I cannot affirm. It is [sic] four bright, it seems to me like landing lights. . . . The aircraft has just passed over me at least a thousand feet above.

R: Roger, and it, it is a large aircraft? Confirm.

V: Er, unknown due to the speed it’s traveling. Is there any Air Force aircraft in the vicinity?

R: No known aircraft in the vicinity.

V: It’s approaching right now from due east towards me. . . . [Silence for 2 seconds.] It seems to me that he’s playing some sort of game. He’s flying over me two, three times, at a time at speeds I could not identify.

R: Roger. What is your actual level?

V: My level is four and a half thousand. Four five zero zero.

R: And confirm you cannot identify the aircraft.

V: Affirmative.

R: Roger. Stand by.

V: It’s not an aircraft. It is—[Silence for 2 seconds.]

R: Can you describe the, er, aircraft?

V: As it’s flying past, it’s a long shape. [Silence for 3 seconds.] [Cannot] identify more than [that it has such speed]. [Silence for 3 seconds.] [It is] before me right now, Melbourne.

R: And how large would the, er, object be?

V: It seems like it’s stationary.1 What I’m doing right now is orbiting, and the thing is just orbiting on top of me also. It’s got a green light and sort of metallic. [Like] it’s all shiny [on] the outside. [Silence for 5 seconds.] It’s just vanished. . . . Would you know what kind of aircraft I’ve got? Is it military aircraft?

R: Confirm the, er, aircraft just vanished.

V: Say again.

R: Is the aircraft still with you?

V: [It’s, ah, nor-] [Silence for 2 seconds.] [Now] approaching from the southwest. . . . The engine is, is rough idling. I’ve got it set at twenty three twenty four, and the thing is—coughing.

R: Roger. What are your intentions?

V: My intentions are, ah, to go to King Island. Ah, Melbourne, that strange aircraft is hovering on top of me again. [Silence for 2 seconds.] It is hovering, and it’s not an aircraft. [Silence for 17 seconds, open microphone, with audible, unidentified staccato noise. End of transcript.] ( Aircraft Accident 1982. Tully case revisited

The RAAF files describe the famous Tully incident in the following manner:
"At about 9.00 a.m. on 19th January, 1966, Mr. G.A. Pedley, a banana grower of Tully, Qld, observed a light grey non reflecting dull object, reported to be about 25 feet long and 8 feet deep, rise vertically then climb on an angle of 450 from a height of about 30 feet above marshland which was situated about 25 yards away from his position. There was an associated hissing noise which decreased
as the 'object' rose. The apparent shape was described as 'two saucers, face to face', but no structural detail was observed. The duration of the observation was approximately 15 seconds and it disappeared in mid air whilst receding into the distance (not assessed).
"A clearly defined near circular depression remained in evidence in swamp grass at the point from which the object was seen rising, and measured about 32 feet long by 25 feet wide. The grass was flattened in clockwise curves to water level within the circle and the reeds had been uprooted from the mud. There was no scorching of grass or surrounding trees and the observer stated that there was no smell of combustion..."

A classic Australian case reanalysed

One of Australia's classic cases, is an incident where a Navy pilot, on a night flight, near Goulburn, New South Wales, encountered two 'unknowns,' which were also picked up on radar.

http://ufos-scientificresearch.blogspot.com.au/2017/06/cold-case-review-31-august-1954-sea.html

One of the most fascinating and controversial Australian radar/visual sighting reports involving unidentified flying objects, occurred on August 31, 1954. This fascinating story was leaked to the media in December 1954 and made headlines across Australia.

The incident involved a young naval pilot, Lt. Shamus O'Farrell, 25 years old at the time, who was returning to the Royal Australian Naval Air Station Nowra in New South Wales, after a lone night mission exercise, in a Sea Fury aircraft. After contacting Nowra at approximately 1910hrs, O'Farrell observed a very bright light closing fast at 1 o'clock, which crossed in front of his aircraft, moving to his port side, where it appeared to orbit. A second similar light was observed at his 9 o'clock position. It passed at approximately 2.5km in front of his aircraft and then turned in the position where the first light was observed.

According to O'Farrell, the apparent crossing speeds of the two lights were the fastest he had ever encountered. At the time he had been flying at 220 knots. O'Farrell then contacted Nowra, who confirmed that there were two ‘paints’ in company with him. The radar operator, Petty Officer Keith Jessop, confirmed the presence of two objects near the Sea Fury on the G.C.I remote display. The two lights reformed at nine o'clock and then disappeared on a north-easterly heading. O'Farrell could only make out a ‘vague shape with the bright light situated centrally on top.’

The Directorate of Naval Intelligence, at the time, wrote that ‘Shamus O'Farrell was an entirely credible witness’ and that he was visibly ‘shaken’ by his experience, but remains adamant that he saw these objects.
