I believe everyone is going to hit rock bottom once in their lifetime. The intricate part of going through such a phase is to find the cause and the right solution to deal with the problem. In the least desireable situation, one will be dragged through a long process of therapy looking in the wrong directions.

A shining example is about someone I know. The person got depressed at the age of 22, but did not know what was happening and was not able to identify the cause. Doctors did their best but subscribing medication is often the first solution, like in this case. Personally I don't have anything against medication, but medication is not the solution. Medication is only the crutch acting as a support to keep moving. Some people won't ever be able to move without a crutch, that's fine, but even with the use of a crutch you will need to review your life on what happened.

So, the therapy led to nothing but offering medication in the form of an antidepressant. The person flatted out, no crying nor laughin. The most terrifying part was that when getting off the meds withdrawal symptoms started to pop up in the form of severe headaches and ringing noises. This is just one of the downsides of meds. The person could not think of any other option but to face the troubles of depression by searching for the cause and try to come up with solutions. After a period of reviewing oneself, it seemed that an ongoing rage of thoughts caused the person to tire and fall into a state of depression. Months of rest was needed to get back in the sadle.

A couple of years later the same symptons start to pop up again. The feeling of being tired, not being able to get a grip on life, constant flow of thoughts and not being able to finish long term tasks. This time some random stranger appeared and started talking about ADD. The concentration dosorder, but the one without Hyperactivity, like the physical need to move or speak. All the symptoms added up. After reviewing its life it all made sense. After a professional diagnoses there was an option for a close observed trajectory with using Methylphenidate. The dosis started with 30mg a day, this is a common used dose and safe to start with. A couple of side effects occured, again, like insomnia, soar throat and enhanced symptoms of the disorder after the function of the meds have worn off at the end of the day. Therefore the dose was lowered to 15mg a day. The dose is so low, that cold-turkey quiting is easily done, even without withdrawal symptoms.

Now the person is operating from a sweet spot. Concentration is there when needed, a feeling of being in control again because mood is now self-governed, no feeling of tiredness because the disorder caused the brain to work overtime. It is believed that with the help of the proper meds and a dosis fit for the circumstances, the overall IQ went up for at least 5 points. Unfortunately this is not properly researched and may vary per peson.

So my conclusion of this all, meds are very dangerous and must be taken seriously. Drugs and alchohol are fun, but meds are no joke. I'm not saying the abuse of meds and alchohol will cause serious problems, but it is most definately not contributing to get into that sweet spot, like football players or gamers who have that feeling of YES! Everything that is tried is succeeding. Also, I believe AD(H)D is underestimated, perhaps it may not even be a biologically formed disorder, but sprung from coping with certain difficulties under certain circumstances. The last but not least, listening to the body is key. The body needs proper nutrition, and most importantly, even the need for nutrition varies per person. Taste and hunger for certain fruits, plants or meat indicate what the body is asking, there is no specific guideline for what a body needs. Even more so, the bosy needs the adventure to discover what is best for the body. The body needs exercise as well.
