Background: At local Van Ness Park with friends, ~9 p.m., definitely nighttime. Of the 10 of us, two of us noticed the orange light.

Location: Los Angeles, CA, USA

Our Conclusion: A rover or a UFO.

Anecdote:

We arranged yet another evening summer-time soccer match at the park: we met at the tennis courts, ready for ego-staking recreation. (We usually traveled by foot or car.) We were equipped with water bottles, too.

About two hours later, at the fatigue-threshold, we began to kick the balls casually. Friend Alexey and I, heading to a bench, were diverted by an unmistakably orange glow in the night sky. We were amazed, and assumed it to be a UFO.

Orange-glowing bugs were never seen in this park; the park was empty save for us; helicopters that frequented the area never emitted orange light; a rover . . . in the ghetto - I dono.

It was by far one of the most eerie sights I've bore witness to.

I should have added: The glow disappeared in a matter of seconds. It was a slow, steady glow.

I should have also added (where is the "Edit" button?): The floodlights glow flatly yellowish light.

Interesting sighting! My first sighting of a UFO was way back in January 2008... It was a large orange reddish ball of light. It was extremely odd, because two of us first seen a shimmering light off a wall and this ball of light was hovering 300-500 ft. in the distance, about 10-20 ft. off the ground... I guess it somehow projected that light from that distance to get our attention, because that's what it did... It was moving (actually hovering) slowly along the prairie field and I wanted to sprint out there with a camera, but wasn't prepared for such an unexplainable, bizarre encounter. Plus it was freezing out and I had no idea where the camera was.

As for the edit feature, that's not available to unregistered users... Thanks for sharing your story, we want to know all we can about other people's thoughts and situations during a sighting/encounter... I know without a doubt that there's strange lights in the sky that aren't "drones or airplanes".
